Sleeping positions...

On average we spend a third of our lives sleeping, so if we have bad posture in our sleep our overall posture will worsen considerably.

Sleeping positions, best to worst:

Soldier / Sleeping on your back:
This position provides the most support for your spine. Lie flat on your back with a pillow beneath your head.
+ Reduces neck & back pains.
+ Reduces acid reflux.
+ Decreases risk of getting wrinkles because the face isn't being pushed against anything.
+...Gravity provides support which helps maintains perky breasts

- Snoring is most frequent and most severe in this position.

Side Position
+ Reduces acid reflux.
+ Reduces snoring.

- Face is smushed into pillow, may cause wrinkles.
- Because the breasts are dangling downwards, and the ligaments are being stretched, it may cause sagginess :|

Foetal position:
+ Reduces snoring.
+ Comfortable if you're preggers.

- Can cause back pains.
- Restricts breathing.
- Can cause premature facial wrinkles.
- Can cause saggy breasts.

Stomach position:
+Easy snoring because sleeping face-down keeps your airways open.

- It puts pressure on joints and muscles, which can irritate nerves and lead to pain, numbness and tingling. Because your head remains on one side for hours on end, there may be pain throughout the next day when you turn your head.

I was a 'freefaller' for years... since I was a teenager-

Just lately I've turned Starfish/Soldier... I have no idea why-

What about you, laya?

Most of the time foetus but all of them at different times through the night. I have back problems so I can't stay in one position for too long.

Lol at the "Log".

Looks like I sleep in worst position possible. Great.

I've been taking an extreme foetal position for as long as I can remember- knees up and head tucked in. But I've just realised how bad that is for my posture so I've switched to "Soldier"now

There's some interesting psychological links about why people sleep in the positions they do...there are a lot of interpretations:

Soldier (Sleeping on their backs with arms down and kept close to the body.)
Personality Traits: Reserved and somewhat introverted. Soldier sleepers adhere to high standards and are perfectionists

Starfish (Sleeping on their backs with arms and legs out stretched.)
Personality Traits: Open to ideas, a good listener prefer to stay in the background rather than be the center of attention

I used to be Foetal but hate it now. Have been Soldier/Sleeping on the back for the past year or so.

Soldier (Sleeping on their backs with arms down and kept close to the body.)
Personality Traits: Reserved and somewhat introverted. Soldier sleepers adhere to high standards and are perfectionists

That is actually quite accurate, for me anyway.
"When I became," said he, "the becoming became.
I have become the becoming.
I am one seeing myself, divided.
I am two and four and eight.
I am the universe in diversity.
I am my transformations.
This is my coming together.
Here are my selves become one."

When I sleep soldier, I end up waking with my arms folded. Wonder what that's about
