Liberals....

PostWed Feb 15, 2017 10:06 pm

I was just wondering earlier today....

Why does everyone seem to hate "liberals"?

As some people may know, I am not American, I think all politicians are liars and crooks (in all fairness, anyone in a suit or uniform is automatically a moron from my point of view), my political leanings are more towards total anarchy than any kind of system. I believe we should be able to do whatever the hell we want, as long as it causes no harm or loss to anything else, and if we do, we should do what we can to make it up. Some people see that as "do as thou wilt" and call me satanic but they are straight up ignoring the "within reason" part of what I am saying that comes after me saying that we should have the freedom to live as we please. Causing no harm or loss, and if we do, make it right again. Anyway, I googled "liberals" to see just wtf everyone always talks about and I found this...

liberal
ˈlɪb(ə)r(ə)l
adjective
1. willing to respect or accept behaviour or opinions different from one's own; open to new ideas.
"liberal views towards divorce"
2.(of education) concerned with broadening a person's general knowledge and experience, rather than with technical or professional training.
"the provision of liberal adult education"
synonyms: wide-ranging, broad-based, general, humanistic
"the provision of liberal adult education"
noun
1.a person of liberal views.
"a concern among liberals about the relation of the citizen to the state"

https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/liberal

"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." - Aristotle

Now, I don't think we need some kind of 'nanny state', quite the opposite in fact, but because I don't care about homosexuals, politics, the economy, trans people, people of other religious beliefs, drug addicts, whatever and I am quite happy doing my own thing as long as nobody is stepping on anyone else's toes, I suppose that means I have much more liberal views...

These guys seemed pretty reasonable in their descriptions. It was the first place I looked.

People dislike opinions they disagree with. Many liberals (who are really illiberal progressives masquerading as liberals), act like children who can’t accept any other opinion than their own and try to force their opinions down people’s throats. It’s the same reason why many liberals hate conservatives.

It is probably a stupid topic, I don't actually care that much about all the political jargon that is thrown around. I was simply curious and was just wondering if anyone else felt like giving their 2¢ and 'enlightening' me on this subject...

Take it easy guys and gals. It is not a big deal. Everything is meaningless. We are all going in the ground at the end of the day. Just try to enjoy things and be good to each other. May the peace and blessings of The God be upon all of you.

Unfortunately the term "liberal" has seemingly been forever chained to the stereotypical radical left person who says they need trigger warnings for things that might upset them or get uber offended by someone wearing an insensitive costume or seem to get professionally offended by things. Laci Green is a stereotypical liberal feminist if you want to look her up a bit.

I consider myself a liberal personally, but I'm often hesitant to use that classifier because of the connotation it has garnered due to these sorts of people. So now I just say something like "I'm progressively moderate" or something. I'm not easily offended, but I do understand when certain things are insensitive so I know to avoid them, but I don't see the value in throwing a fit because HIllary Duff's boyfriend dressed as a Native American.

The Conservative Right is ironically becoming very similar to those they would call "crybaby snowflakes" and the like, and seem to have adopted their tactics and sensitivities, just for different topics like... Disparaging America, disparaging white people, and companies trying to be inclusive of all citizens.

Personally, I think that an irrational radical on either side is unbearable, but unfortunately they are the ones that get all of the attention in the media because they are crazy, which amounts to "interesting" or "attention grabbing."

IM I Liberal and proud of it so not everyone. (I'm really the progressive end of a liberal but whatever)

Am also acutely aware of what your talking bout and have been dealing with it my whole life..

I've seen a bunch of different categories of liberal scorn and I'll give u a few
1) assume liberals just want government hand outs lazy don't want to work entitled etc
2) kinda hand in hand believe that once said liberal gets more money they will no longer be liberal and that there beliefs are naive and only because they are broke
3) believe the government should be modeled on their religious beliefs and can't understand those who don't or don't have same religiously beliefs. Insist despite constitution that this is a Christian nation.
4) hate paying taxes
5) love guns wish they had grown up in the Wild West and think all liberals want to take their guns and hate guns and hate the kind of life they wish they had or do have.
6) racist/sexist/classist/homophobic on some level and resent bleeding heart liberals for trying to corrupt their children by accepting those they are prejudice against.
7) parents hated liberals grandparents hated liberals so they hate liberals never thought about it further
8) didn't get a college education and bitter towards what they see as spoiled coddle liberal snowflakes from socialist universities they either couldn't afford or couldn't get into

If some of this seems bitter I applogiZe. I've literally been dealing with this since I'm a child and it's frustrating.

I don't identify as a liberal or conservative myself. I think they are both too much like clubs. Unfortunately, the way they are stereotyped is true-to-form much of the time. Liberals get a lot of attention lately because of their own behavior that is very offputting in my opinion, but I am not a conservative either.

In particular, the meme's they post about how third party voters are why Trump was elected, which is just ridiculous. I have the right to vote for whoever I want to vote for too.

The meme with the description for why they are disappointed in people who voted for Trump too. Those are just ridiculous to me. They say something about how people who vote for Trump are okay with racism and this whole list of accusations.

Every time I look at it I think to myself, "saying I am upset that Trump is president is the same thing as saying I wish Hillary was president, and I will never do that in a hundred thousand years, so back off me."

It is like they don't realize the pickle that was created by having Trump run as the Republican candidate and Hillary run as the Democratic candidate. From there, I just think that they have a poor sense of reality and a great deal of disrespect for the opinions of others. Therefore, I find most liberal media extremely distasteful and disrespectful.

However, I am not conservative by any means because most of the conservative platform supports Zionism, which is also extremely offensive to me. I just get so tired of their kind acting like helping Israel is an act of heroism.

So after years of prophecy study and a significant interest in politics, literature, and trying to develop something useful to say only to be rejected; I have retreated a little bit to an independent study of math and computers to console me in the rejection of the whole endeavor. I like to say what I feel still, but I don't like to repeat myself after that. I would rather just investigate mathematical concepts that can't be argued with. It just seems like a better use of my time.

Never posted a meme about third party voters.. democrats lost because they nominated Hilary who is hated and a charismatic salesman was given the republican ticket. Have never posted a meme about trump supporters being all racist either. The racist undertones and the straight out racist propaganda with concerns to Mexicans and Muslims bothers me a lot and people who aren't bothered by it confuse me but I don't post memes about it or assume they are all racist s because of it.

I'm upset trump is president. I'm not upset Hilary isn't. That's not how that works necessarily.

My opinions have been disrespected by people who don't share them, that's a trait found in every group under the sun it is surely not solely or typically "liberal"

What the hell does poor sense of reality mean? Are you one of those that thinks if liberals were wealthy they'd cease being liberals? Or that our morals are naive? Please elaborate.

If you are not one who posted anything that I referenced, then nothing I said applies to you. I was speaking in a general sense based on observation. However, saying that you haven't is also not a way to speak for everyone. Here are just a couple articles quoting Obama and Sanders claiming that voting 3rd party is a vote for Trump. This was in an effort to indirectly campaign for Clinton. I saw this and just wondered on what planet someone lived that they didn't understand that never in this life or the next, will I ever vote for Clinton. This is what I am talking about.

I also have no idea what you are talking about when you say that some people think if liberals were wealthy they'd cease being liberals. I have never heard that before in my life and it doesn't really make much sense considering the Clinton's are liberals and are very wealthy, but many of the things conservatives say don't make much sense either.

@Jess, I think Rainerann was spot on when he said that none of this applies to you so it wasn't directed at you. S/he(?) is just speaking generally about how many Liberals come off, but you wouldn't be included in that percentage of the liberal populous, and neither would I.

@Rainerann, the Clintons are certainly not real liberals; they are corporatist, slightly-left-leaning Democrats, but not liberals. I think that is the big issue with the whole thing, that people conflate being a liberal with being a Democrat. If you lean at all left then you are a liberal. I just don't see it that way, but that is why I've shifted away from calling myself a liberal (labels are pretty dumb anyway, but necessary for certain discussions), and now mostly use "progressive" because I support progress, though even that can be confusing because a conservative's idea of progress is probably very different from my own.

Like I've always said the liberals of today are not the liberals of yesterday. What it means to be a liberal today is complete madness. For example in Ontario, if this law passes, I can be subject to being fined under hate speech if I don't call someone by the pronoun they want to be identified with. It's "liberals" that are pushing for crazy nonsense like this.

Liberals today are cool with watching multiple other dudes bang their wife if that's what the woman wants all for the sake of liberalism.

@ Loki

You make a very good about the Clinton's so I would like to amend my initial statement a little. Some things that I have seen people post where they seem to label themselves as a liberal who appear to support Clinton because they identify her as a liberal as well, bother me. I guess I would say that sort of false dynamic by people who are referring to themselves as liberals bothers me a little, and I feel like it bleeds into some of their other arguments. I hope that makes sense.

Even still, I still think they have the right to believe what they want, I just can't understand some of the insults. They don't seem like very well thought out contributions to any sort of debate. Although, I could say the same of some conservatives as well, and have on a few occasions.

I think I would identify as somewhat of a moderate progressive as well. I was basically independent through this last election with a leaning towards newer Libertarian commentary. Basically, I think political discussions should be intelligent and not polarized the way they were this election season. This is what made me feel the most disappointed in our recent election. It was like listening to Patriots fans battle Falcon fans and the election was the superbowl. Not what I think politics should be like.

Loki - I entirely understood that. Same for Kung fu above.. but the problem is people just assume all liberals think like that and do those things when they don't. Same goes the other way. It's a generalization and its either unintentionally or intentionally insulting, depending on who it's coming from.

I also consider myself a progressive but everyone else calls me a liberal so.. so much for labels? Thigh the two have some things in common I guess.

As for Hilary I agree completely. As for most of the Democratic Party actually.

Kung fu - I think the law is ridiculously as well. Not all "liberals" agree on everything. Just like not all Muslims share one brain and shouldn't be held accountable for the thoughts and actions of others which don't reflect their own.

As for multiple dudes banging someone's wife I don't think that is ok, I don't think most liberals or even feminists think it's ok. If you don't like people generalizing about Muslims or men the name why do u generalize about others?
